Social media Day KE was celebrated on 30th June 2017 in line with Mashable world social media day celebrated across the world. Being an election year, there was country wide sensitization onresponsible use of social media.
The theme for #SMDAYKE2016 is "Freedom with Responsibility - Celebrating the freedoms that come with Social Media". #SMDAYKE 2016 celebrations were held for a period of one month and involved different activities targeting different groups in Kenya. More than 1000 Citizens were trained through Digify Bytes a Digital training program sponsored by Google.
Social media day 2015 incorporated day and evening activities. The day activities were hosted by Jeff Koinange and sponsored by Safaricom and Coca Cola in Nairobi. Different people were interviewed and videos produced were shared online.The evening Activities were hosted by Kenya Social Media Awards (SOMA) and sponsored by OLX Kenya. The evening cocktail brought together more than 170 Digital experts with representatives from the Ministry of ICT and Office of the president.
Social media day 2014 brought together Kenya Social media practitioners who engaged from different Google hangouts. The hangouts were sponsored by Google and supported by different organizations including: Airtel, Orange, TriNC media, Bean Interactive, Nailab, Niaje, BAKE, SOMA Awards, KCB etc. The central hangout was at NAILAB where different digital experts met to discuss different topics around social media.
