SoMA Judge – Neo Musangi

Neo Sinoxolo Musangi was born at an undisclosed place in Kenya sometime between 1980 and 1982 but not in 1981. Musangi is a predominantly experimental self-taught genderqueer-feminist artist whose practice uses performance, text, visual and audio installations.

They have participated in various group exhibitions including at Fada Gallery, Johannesburg; University of Cape Town and at the National Museums of Kenya. Musangi is also part of the feminist queer art collective, String Fabulations. Musangi has a previous life in Johannesburg (and has Lusaka ambitions) but now lives, works and rants in Nairobi, Kenya.

Currently, Musangi is the coordinator of Nairobi Becoming: A Portrait of a 21st African City, which is housed at the British Institute in Eastern Africa, Nairobi. Musangi is also a published poet whose online madness is archived at the Feminist Loft (www.feministloft.com) & at Native Informant (@sinoxolomusangi).
